CHURCH ADOPTION

CHURCH ADOPTION PROCESS

Church adoption begins when an established church in another denomination or space discerns whether C4SO would be a home for them. Churches interested in coming into C4SO must complete the following 5 steps under the guidance of the Canon for Church Multiplication. If you are a Hispanic or Latino church, you will complete the steps under the guidance of the Director of the Diaspora Network.

Alongside the 5-Step Process is a period of relational discernment. The Canon for Church Multiplication or the Director of the Diaspora Network will connect you with your Regional Dean and local churches in your area, and you’re encouraged to get to know them.

Step 1 – Phone Conversation Between Applicant and C4SO Canon for Church Multiplication

The Canon for Church Multiplication will have an initial dialogue to get to know the applicant.

Step 2 – Church Adoption Applicant Inventory

The applicant will answer Pre-assessment Questions in written form and submit via email to the Canon for Church Multiplication.

Step 3 – In-Depth Assessment Interview

If the applicant is able to successfully navigate Steps 1-2, he or she will answer questions in an in-depth phone conversation with the Canon for Church Multiplication.

Step 4 – Diocesan Reporting and Candidate Feedback

The Canon for Church Multiplication will submit a written Assessment Interview Observations Worksheet to the C4SO offices. The report will include a recommendation regarding the adoption of the applicant, as well as any recommended remediation steps for the applicant.

Step 5 – Next Steps

The Canon for Church Multiplication will connect the applicant to the diocesan office for help with credentialing, expectations, etc.
