The first step in C4SO’s Path of Discernment to Holy Orders is the Local Process. During this stage, those exploring ordination are known as Aspirants.

The Local Process is led by the rector of the C4SO church in which the aspirant serves.

The Local Process is the foundation of discernment. Together, we seek to understand not only whether God is calling someone to ordained ministry, but also how and why He may be calling them.

Discernment begins within the local church through prayer, conversation and reflection. Aspirants meet with their rector and other trusted leaders in their church to explore their sense of calling, their gifts for ministry and the shape that vocation might take.

Because ordination is a calling that affects every part of life, married aspirants are also asked to have intentional conversations with their spouse, together as well as with their rector, as they prayerfully discern what is best for their family.

As part of the process, each aspirant writes a Spiritual Autobiography, reflecting on God’s work throughout their life and the journey that has led them to this point. We also ask every aspirant to meet regularly with a Spiritual Director throughout the entire discernment process.
