Spiritual direction is a gift that leads us to pay deeper attention to the work of God in our lives. To be with a spiritual director is to be welcomed into a space where a trusted guide listens with you as you listen to God. Family, work, desires, dreams and disappointments, in seasons of transition, discernment and confusion—God is engaging with you in all of the stuff of life. Spiritual direction is a place for holding the deepest questions of your soul.

Spiritual direction is also an age-old practice of the Church. Its roots reach all the way back to the desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd century. Spiritual direction is for anyone who desires to grow in their life with God, and it is a particular gift to those who serve as leaders or aspire to serve as leaders. Meeting with a spiritual director over time can be a powerful way to attend to the care of your soul.

In C4SO, spiritual direction isn’t just a resource—it’s a relationship. Each of our listed spiritual directors:

  • Has completed recognized training in spiritual direction
  • Receives regular spiritual direction themselves
  • Participates in group supervision or a community of directors
  • Undergoes an annual renewal process with the diocese
  • Belongs to a C4SO church
This process reflects our commitment to trust, integrity and spiritual care within the diocese.

Every spiritual director has their own process of stewarding stories, shaped by their training, personality and personal experience of life and God. It can be worthwhile to interview more than one spiritual director as you assess a good fit for you.
