Are you coming to the ACNA Provincial Assembly 2019 in Plano, Texas? We’ve got you covered with details that will help you prepare for your trip! Haven’t registered yet? There’s still time to make it here, especially if you’re local! Register Here.
What to Pack: The important thing about Assembly is being comfortable enough to walk from place to place. Clergy often wear their collars, especially on Monday because of our evening Eucharist service. The weather in Dallas will be warm, but that means that the air conditioning is running nice and cool. So layers are a good idea. And it looks as though we have a chance of storms. If you forget anything, retail rescue is very close by. Stonebriar Mall and the surrounding shops mean that anything you need is close at hand.
Visiting: If you need to grab a meal before/after the gathering, there are a lot of great restaurants nearby. LaHacienda Ranch has great Tex-Mex, Spring Creek BBQ is yummy and casual, and Platia Greek Kouzina is a lovely Greek restaurant. For a great foodie experience, hit one of the great restaurants at Legacy West – or try the gourmet Food Hall there, which has a bunch of great restaurants and bars. I would especially recommend the Food Hall after the Monday night service. If you get the chance, the Cowboys Star is a great destination for fans. Uber and Lyft are common, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t have a car.
Keep in Touch: The ACNA has produced an app for your phone or tablet, which has information about the Assembly. Click here to download the app: http://bit.ly/2RdtjiK
Sunday Morning: For those of you coming in early, we invite you to join one of our 4 area churches:
- Christ Church Plano – one of the largest churches in the ACNA, with 5 weekend services, led by Paul Donison.
- Holy Trinity McKinney – our newest church plant in the area, led by Erik Willits.
- Redemption Church – a young church meeting at an elementary school in Frisco, a few miles north of the Convention Center, led by Jason Bowman. Bishop Todd will be preaching the morning of 6/16.
- Restoration Anglican Church – a church worshipping in an lovely event space in Richardson, led by Jed Roseberry.
Monday:
Anyone can check in on Monday at noon, so feel free to check in early to avoid the lines. And be sure to grab your complimentary copy of the new ACNA Book of Common Prayer, at the book store at the convention center.
10-Year Anniversary Service – Monday night’s Eucharist service at Christ Church Plano is going to be very special. All clergy should plan to vest for the service – it’s important to review the instructions below. Consider using our Clergy Facebook Page to borrow any gear you might need. EVERYONE: Please meet at the altar after the service for a C4SO photo, and to receive your C4SO t-shirt. Clergy should remain vested for the photo.
Tuesday
Tuesday is a big day, with speakers like James Bryan Smith, Ravi Zacharias and Russell Moore. There are a TON of great breakout sessions, especially around developing disciples and reaching people in your community, as well as a track by retired Archbishop Bob Duncan, on the new Book of Common Prayer. You’ll need to plan your time strategically, to get the most for your particular ministry. But here are a few that we think are particularly interesting:
Session I – Tuesday, June 18 from 11am-12pm
-
- Forming People and Pastors into Christlikeness of Life, with Dr. Geoff Chapman
Session II – Tuesday, June 18 from 3pm-4pm
-
- Church at The Intersection of Gospel and Culture, with Bishop Todd
- Joy in Sharing the Gospel: Exploring Faithful and Fruitful Ministries, the Clergywomen’s Gathering, led by the Rev Dr Andrea Millard with panelists The Rev Tish Warren, The Rev Anna Spray, and The Rev Heather Ghormley.
Tuesday, June 18 from 4:15pm-5:15pm
-
- Toward a More Diverse Anglicanism: The Past, Present, and Future of Multiethnic and Ethnic-Specific Ministry in the ACNA, led by Rev Dr. Esau McCaulley
