The Bible is one big story comprised of smaller stories that tell us who God is, who we are, and his work creating us, saving us, and renewing his good creation through the death and resurrection of his Son. As believers, we take our place in the Story of God, playing our own small but significant roles as participants in God’s work of redemption.
We are also called to tell stories. Sharing the good news of the Kingdom of God has been Jesus’ call to the Church since her beginning. We see it immediately the morning that Jesus rises and leaves the empty tomb in the Gospel of John.
One of the first disciples, Mary, encounters him and is then sent to the others to share what just has taken place. We remember that the first disciples also receive the story of Jesus before they see him physically.
And what’s so mysterious and beautiful is the practice of receiving and passing down this good story to the Church through the help of the Holy Spirit.
This is why storytelling is so central to our faith and why we seek to cultivate the faithful practice of storytelling in our diocese.
