Episode: Winfield Bevins on the Book of Common Prayer (Gifts of Anglicanism)

Published On: August 30th, 2021

We continue our series on The Gifts of Anglicanism for the Body of Christ, focusing on the Book of Common Prayer. Our guest is the Rev. Dr. Winfield Bevins, Director for the Asbury Church Planting Initiative and Canon for Church Planting for the Anglican Diocese of the Carolinas. You can connect with Winfield on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or at his website, including books he has written. The books we talked about today were Our Common Prayer: A Field Guide to the Book of Common Prayer and Seedbed’s Field Guide For Daily Prayer.

Over the past few decades, many of us have found ourselves “on the Canterbury trail,” drawn by the Spirit to the treasures of the Great Tradition of the Church. At the same time, we want to steward these riches within a contextual, kingdom-centric mission without getting mired in a stiff “traditionalism” that would hamper Spirit-empowered mission. This podcast series will feature 8 treasures we’ve received in the Anglican tradition and how they can effectively engage the world around us.

Announcements and Links:

  • Due to the rapid spread of the Delta Variant, we made the decision to postpone this fall’s Clergy Conference in Austin (Sept. 14-16). But since we had already saved those dates, all C4SO clergy are invited to get together online for a brief time of resourcing and fellowship on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10 am – 1 pm CT. Bishop Todd has invited Dr. MaryKate Morse, our Conference speaker, and another friend, Dr. Greg Boyd, to join the gathering. Each of them will share a few thoughts on leading well in this season, followed by a time of Q&A. We will end by breaking into Zoom small groups for some virtual fellowship. Register here.
  • All C4SO clergy, leaders, parishioners or people interested in the life of the diocese are invited to attend our virtual Diocesan Convention on Saturday, November 13, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm CT. The Convention is a vital part of engaging in communal leadership of our diocese. During this time, we will be celebrating our 2021 growth and progress, sharing our vision for 2022, hearing from key leaders, and voting on important topics. Get more info and register here.
  • Our Cycle of Prayer Spotlight ministry this week is Restoration Anglican Church in Richardson, Texas.
