From now through the Epiphany season, C4SO is encouraging its churches to participate in helping the mission of Trinity on the Border by collecting and sending basic hygiene kits to distribute to their ministry parters who are working directly with immigrants and asylum seekers on the border.
Trinity on the Border is a C4SO mission near the Mexico border in Harlingen, Texas, that exists to provide health care to the poor and to detained asylum seekers, offer pastoral and sacramental ministry to asylum seekers, the poor, and to those serving them on both sides of the border, as well as various other ministry efforts. Learn more about the mission here.
These hygiene kits will go to the mission’s partners who are working with immigrants, including:
- The Humanitarian Respite Center (HRC) in McAllen, TX provides basic services like showers, new clothes, food, and information to people who are applying for asylum in the United States and are being released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The HRC welcomes between 80 and 200 refugees and immigrants each day.
- La Posada Providencia in San Benito, TX is an emergency shelter for immigrants and asylum seekers. Clients are provided with food and shelter as well as citizenship training as they wait for their legal immigration processes to be resolved.
If you and your church would like to participate in the drive, go to the Trinity on the Border site and follow the instructions for putting the kits together and where to send them. If you’d prefer to support the Mission through a financial donation, you’ll be able to at the bottom of the page.
