The Revelation 7:9 Task Force for Racial Diversity and Inclusion invites you to join them in reading and reflecting on the book Beyond Colorblind by Sarah Shin during the Eastertide season.
- “Why are you trying to make me see color?”
- “Shouldn’t we be focused on what unites us?”
- “What does it mean to pursue diversity when we can’t even seem to agree on what it is?”
If you’ve ever tried to talk about race in America in your church, these questions are probably familiar to you. And they are not going away. The past few years have not only revealed the divisions in our communities with regard to these issues, but the inadequacy of our current frameworks to hold them in meaningful dialogue.
In Beyond Colorblind, Sarah Shin offers a helpful framework that incorporates the restoration and redemption of our ethnic identities as an integral part of Christ’s gospel. She names the pains and the injustices of our racial reality, while remaining unapologetically hopeful in God’s ability to redeem all of our stories.
