Meghan Scully Headshot Executive Assistant to the SuffraganGet to Know Meghan Scully, Executive Assistant to the Suffragan

What interests you in the role of Executive Assistant?
I love being able to quietly come alongside people to practically help, effectively enable, and encourage them in their vocational callings. This is all the more delightful when you get to do this with someone you have known for a while and trust, and also in the context of a close-knit team that enjoys working together.

What has equipped and prepared you for this role?
I have so much to learn in this new role and am eager to do so! Organizational projects and administrative tasks have made me giddy since I was a little girl. Being a “cradle Episcopalian” and in the Anglican church for nearly my whole life thankfully brings a depth of appreciation and understanding to this particular role. And I also have the utmost gratitude for past servant-leadership roles and my previous job as Executive Assistant to the Rector at our church (Christ Church of Austin) that have been both stretching and hugely rewarding.

What are you looking forward to most about working for C4SO?
I am eager to get to know the people within our C4SO community, from the operations team, to all of the clergy and staff of our diocese, and also to hear more about how the Lord is working in and through our community!

Now for some fun questions. What is your favorite book(s)?
This might be the most difficult question on this list! A Gentleman in Moscow, Pride and Prejudice, All the Light We Cannot See, and Harry Potter are some of my favorites. Give me a brilliant mystery, transportive historical fiction, or narrative nonfiction, and I am a happy girl.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Absolutely anywhere we travel as a family for time together is my favorite, but in the words of John Muir, “The mountains are calling, and I must go…”

What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?
Reading; traveling; walking and snuggling with our Lab-Shepherd mix dog, Gatsby; being a wanna-be tea connoisseur; birding and baking (my son’s and daughter’s respective hobbies that I fully delight in and learn from); and playing board games as a family are a few favorites. Also knitting, but I’m currently in a “seasonal slump” with that particular hobby.

Who are a few people, dead or alive, that you would like to have dinner with?
I would most definitely love to gather around the table again with my grandparents. The questions I would love to ask and the stories I’d love to hear! I also sheepishly admit that I daydream about being dear friends with Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Do you have a nickname?
Sometimes Meg, and a few other special names reserved for my people. 🙂

What items do you always like to keep on your desk?
My celery-colored, gold-gilded desk, a vintage game table of my great-grandmother’s, is itself a memento. On it I have more stacks of papers than I’d like, but most of those are printouts of booklists I want to keep in front of me. I have a recent picture of our two children (ages 15 and 13) and dog while on a hike. Always a lovely smelling candle and a spot reserved for my cup of tea will grace the table, as will fun pens and pencils, and other enjoyable bookish accessories. And for an extra dose of delight: a Queen Elizabeth II bobblehead.

How can we pray for you as you begin this new role?
I’m grateful for your prayers!
• For us as a family to adjust well and find good rhythms as we begin both a new job and school year.
• That I would be able to quickly acclimate and learn what I need in order to best help and serve Bishop Brian, and to be gracious with myself on the learning curve.
• For the Holy Spirit to give his wisdom and discernment, his leading and guidance in this role.

Jen Asp Communications Coordinator HeadshotGet to Know Jennifer Asp, Communications Coordinator

What interests you in the role of Communications Coordinator?
C4SO is a vibrant diocese and the communications offer a glimpse into the work of God. For me, this diocese has offered hope when there seemed to be none, so I feel grateful to contribute to a team that is faithfully and beautifully communicating the work of God in and through his people for the sake of others.

What has equipped and prepared you for this role?
This role is about connecting people to the church—and I have spent my adult life helping connect people to Scripture, to the living Word, and to each other within the Church and outside of it. I was an ESL teacher and curriculum writer working with elementary schoolers, middle schoolers and adults for about a decade. I have written and led Bible studies for longer. Teaching, communicating, gathering, and equipping others are joys for me, and I hope to aid in communications in a way that gathers a community to equip and encourage them to faithfully serve others.

What are you looking forward to most about working for C4SO?
I am completely delighted to work with Andrea, Eric, Bliss, and Bishop Todd. I am excited to get to know and support the clergy and churches in our diocese. I sincerely love being part of a team with the clear goal of faithful service.

What is your favorite book(s)?
Anne of Green Gables is my all-time favorite. I do not casually love it; I adore it. Every year I re-read the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings because why wouldn’t you? Lately, I have been swooning over Lucy Peppiatt books, and I will always pre-order Leif Enger books.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love Edinburgh, Scotland.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?
Hanging out with my husband, David, and my kids, Caroline (15) and Josh (13), reading, walking my puppy (Bob Weir), chatting it up with friends,  eating spicy Ramen, and painting

Who are a few people, dead or alive, that you would like to have dinner with?
Mary Oliver, Madeleine L’Engle, Ida B. Wells, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mary Magdalene, and Makoto Fujimura

Do you have a nickname?
Jen

What items do you always like to keep on your desk?
Colored pens, highlighters, sticky tabs, paper, stacks of books, and flowers

How can we pray for you as you begin this new role?
This is a new role for me, and I want to communicate with clarity and competency. I also hope to build deep connections with my team and the clergy in our diocese, and living in Minnesota adds to the challenge.
