ORDINATION PREPARATION
After completing the Diocesan Process, the Candidate becomes an Ordinand. The final step in the Path of Discernment is the Ordination Service itself. An Ordination is a special Kingdom moment in a Ordinand’s life, as well as in the life of the Church. It’s also a missional opportunity because it allows an Ordinand to invite friends and family to celebrate with them. It’s a great time to include supporters and people in the community who want to learn more about the Ordinand and his or her ministry, as well as people from the Diocese and Regional Deanery. Ordinands can design and send printed or email invitations to their Ordination Service. See below for an example.
The Canon for Ordinations is in charge of scheduling and planning the Ordination Service. C4SO holds a group ordination each fall at the Clergy Conference, and in the spring at Christ Church Overland Park. Bishop Todd also performs ordinations throughout the year for those who wish to travel to Nashville.
See the sample bulletins below for an example of an Anglican Ordination Service. To prepare their hearts for ordination, we encourage all Ordinands to review and reflect on the Ordination Service in advance. While each individual Ordination Service may be adapted a bit, it will be based on this service.
Ordinands must follow these instructions to prepare for their Ordination Service.
Gift Suggestions
It’s traditional to receive gifts at your ordination. If people inquire what they can gift you, Ordinands often receive these items from family/friends or their home parish:
- Red stole
- Bible
- Books
- Vestments
