We finish our series on Faith and Vocation with a conversation with Phaedra Taylor on the challenges of living out her vocation as an artist and mother, and the similar kind of work required to thrive in both roles.
Phaedra grew up in Scotland and was transplanted at thirteen to Dallas, Texas. She completed her BFA in sculpture at the University of North Texas, interned at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa Texas, and since then she has been exploring the disciplines of encaustic painting, printmaking, and watercolor. Her work has been exhibited in juried, group, and solo exhibitions, and is held in private collections of various individuals around the globe. Phaedra lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and two children, where she attempts to maintain a consistent studio practice while negotiating the demands of motherhood and the joys of gardening.
