Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
We count it a privilege to help each of our churches not only avoid issues of sexual harassment but cultivate a work culture that is safe and healthy for everyone.
We have designated January as Sexual Harassment Prevention Month to help each of our churches not only avoid issues of sexual harassment but cultivate a work culture that is above reproach. Developed with our Chancellor Myron Steeves of the Church Law Center of California, our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training is a one-hour online video training followed by a brief online quiz. Upon passing the quiz with a score of 70% or higher, clergy will be emailed a certificate for their records. Non-clergy do not need to take the quiz.
January 31 is the deadline for completing our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
Here’s what that means for you:
- CLERGY: Complete our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training by January 31 (to be repeated annually). This one-hour training was developed specially for C4SO by the Church Law Center of California. You will access the videos in a Google Drive folder and take a subsequent quiz, which is necessary for legal documentation. Rectors must also complete our Compliance Form.
- EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, INTERNS, VESTRIES/WARDENS: Complete our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training by January 31 (to be repeated annually unless your church has asked for and been granted an exemption). Your church will facilitate and document your completion. We suggest that the person appointed as the church’s Congregation Coordinator for Child and Youth Protection also manage this process and document who has taken the training. Contact your relevant church leader with questions.
- ALL CHURCHES: Make C4SO’s Whistleblower Policy available to your congregations as a clear way for people who observe or experience sexual harassment or any form of wrongdoing to report it.
For C4SO clergy, we have uploaded the training videos to a Google Drive folder, alongside a worksheet with reporting instructions for each state, and we are relying on you completing the subsequent quiz to legally document that you have completed the training. Because we care about safeguarding each of our clergy and churches, we take this training very seriously, and we trust you will watch the video(s) in its entirety before taking the quiz.
HOW TO ACCESS THE TRAINING FOR YOURSELF |
Step 1: View the one-hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training video. Step 2: If you live in California or another state that requires an additional hour of training for anyone in a supervisory role, view the Supervisor’s Training video. Step 3: When you have completed the training, take the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training quiz. California supervisors must also complete the Supervisor’s Training quiz. You must pass with a score of at least 70%. The quiz will serve as legal documentation that you have completed the training. If you do not take the quiz, we will have no way to prove you are compliant. Step 4. Familiarize yourself with the state-specific reporting worksheet. |
HOW TO ACCESS THE TRAINING FOR YOUR STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, INTERNS, VESTRIES/WARDENS: Step 1: Ask them to view the training using the SAME links as above. |
Step 2: Document their completion by January 31. If an incident of harassment should occur, you can legally prove that everyone at your church has been trained. Note: Staff, volunteers, interns, and vestries/wardens do NOT need to take the quiz following the training. |
As part of our Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, you will receive this state-specific worksheet that describes the requirements and reporting protocols for each of C4SO’s states.
